Buying “ブルシット! Bullshit!” on iTunes

For iPhone Experts

If you are a black-belt iPhone user and you spent a lot of time on the iTunes store buying and downloading songs, videos, and books it is really quite easy to buy “ブルシット! Bullshit!, A Japanese Mother Learns from Her Bilingual Children”:

  1. Open iTunes.
  2. Search for “ブルシット” (in katakana).
  3. Scroll past the songs and other content to the book.
  4. Buy the book.
  5. Open iBooks.
  6. Read book.

For iPhone Limited Users

There are a lot of other users who use their iPhone only as a telephone, or perhaps use only a few applications that were setup by someone else. For these users, the procedure can be a little less obvious. Here is the detailed, step-by-step procedure.

Preparation

The following preparation steps will make the process easier:

  1. iTunes Username and Password – when you first received your iPhone (or iPad) Apple required you to setup an account. If you don’t know your ID and password, you will want to go find them before you get started.
  2. Credit Card – if you don’t buy things regularly, the iTunes store will challenge you to enter the 3 or 4 digit security code from your credit card. Likewise, it the credit card you used to setup the account has expired, you will need to be ready to update the credit card information.
  3. Japanese Keyboard – if you don’t have the Japanese input feature setup, you will need to set it up before starting.
  4. Software Update – have you updated your phone’s software recently? If not you may run into some amazing and remarkable behavior. Consider running software update from the iPhone’s settings menu.

Step 1 – Find iTunes Store Icon

The first step is to find the icon for the iTunes store. You may need to swipe left or right if it is not on the main screen. Once you find the icon, tap it.

Step 2 – Get Stuck at Blank Screen

The first thing that may happen is a blank screen that does nothing. Apple has struggled with this issue for years and an upgrade to the iTunes application in early July 2015 seems to have exacerbated the problem. Try powering the iPhone all the way off (hold down the power button for several seconds) and restarting it. If the problem persists, contact Apple customer support.
